How to Waterproof & Repair of Old Flat Roof with Silicone Waterproof Coating?

I.Project overview

According to the on-site investigation of technicians, the old waterproof coating on the roof has peeled off. So the new solutions are as follows:
1. Remove the peeling and falling parts of the old roof;
2. Clean the base course or base surface;
3. Repair brick joints the cracks and peeling off parts etc.;
4. Apply the first layer or coat of silicone waterproof coating;
5. Paving non-woven fabric or polyester fabrics for reinforcement;
6. Apply the second, third, forth of silicone waterproof coating or as demand.
 
II. Characteristics of the silicone waterproofing coating materials

III. The construction procedures 

1.Demand for construction conditions

(1) Waterproof materials entering the site must be retested on site, and unqualified materials shall not be constructed;
(2) Materials must be sealed and stored in a cool and dry place;
(3) Provide necessary and sufficient construction tools and organize labor arrangement;
(4) The base course or surface shall have sufficient strength, solid, flat and free from sand;
(5) The dust, oil stain, particles and other sundries on the surface of the base course shall be cleaned;
 
2. Construction process introduction
 
Remove peeling and falling off parts → Base course or surface cleaning → Repair brick joints, cracks and peeling and falling off parts → Brush the first coat of silicone paint or coating→ Additional treatment of details like angles, joints, cracks and etc. → Paving non-woven fabric reinforcement → Brush the second coat of silicone coating → Brush the third coat of silicone coating →… → Brush the fourth coat of silicone paint or coating → Waterproofing testing → Acceptance of waterproof layer
 
3. Key points of waterproofing construction operation
 
(1) Remove the peeling and falling parts, and then clean the base course without floating dust, sundries and open water.
 
(2) Before large-area painting or spraying, the brick joints and peeling off parts shall be repaired with silicone waterproof coating.
 
(3) Detail additional processing:A layer of reinforced cloth or fabrics shall be added at the construction site to strengthen the treatment. Firstly, the silicone waterproof coating shall be brushed evenly with a rubber scraper or paint brush, and the reinforced cloth or fabrics shall be pasted immediately for reinforcement. When the reinforced cloth is pasted, it shall be spread and leveled with a paint brush, closely fit with the lower coating, and the overlapping width is 100mm recommended. The surface shall be painted or applied with one to three layers of coating to make it reach the thickness required by the design.
 
(4) The first coating construction and paving of non-woven fabric: Before the first coat of coating, the silicone waterproof coating shall be stirred evenly, and the rubber scraper or paint brush shall be used to apply (brush) a thin coat on the surface of the base course. Then, during the first coat of coating, the coating thickness shall be uniform and the surface shall be flat.After the surface of the first coating is dry, the non-woven fabric shall be paved in time.
 
(5) Second coating construction: Then, apply and scrape the second coating according to the above formula and method. The direction of each application shall be perpendicular to the direction of the previous application, and the amount of application and scraping shall still be the same as that of the first application.
 
(6) The third and fourth coating construction: After the surface of the second coating is dry, the third and fourth coating construction shall be carried out in the same way.The thickness of the final waterproof layer shall reach 1.0-1.5mm or the design requirements.
 
(7) Acceptance of waterproof layer: During construction, it shall be inspected while painting, and defects found shall be repaired in time. On site constructors and quality inspectors must follow the shift for inspection. After passing the inspection, they can enter the next coating construction, especially pay attention to whether the practices at the junction of plane and facade, corners and internal and external corners are correct.After passing the self inspection, it shall be reported to the supervisor / owner for overall acceptance of the waterproof layer. After the waterproof layer is completed and dried for 48h, 24h water storage test shall be conducted. It is qualified if there is no leakage.
 
IV. Protection for waterproofing layers
 
1.This flexible waterproof system is relatively fragile and must be protected to avoid certain possible damage.
2. The unprotected waterproof layer shall not consign heavy utensils and transportation equipment on the waterproof layer.
3. During the construction of the waterproof layer, the operators shall wear soft soled shoes, and it is strictly prohibited to wear shoes with nails to enter the site to avoid damaging the waterproof layer; If the coiled material is damaged, it shall be repaired in time.
